This was the first time I saw my newborn sleeping with her eyes open, and having REM rapid eye movements in her sleep. She laughs, goes cross-eyed / wall-eyed, her eyes go in opposite directions and all over the place. At first I thought, is my baby okay? Is it normal, is it bad? What is happening with my newborn! I thought she was awake and practicing her eye movements and it was very freaky so see. But it’s just a part of normal deep sleep and nothing to be worried about. You might see your newborn baby breathing heavy, twitching, rapid eye movements, with smiling, giggling and laughing. It should be normal, as you can see from this baby REM sleep video and my newborn baby girl.
