Your Four Month Old Sleep What To Expect

Just when you were getting into a rhythm, things might feel off. Welcome to the 4-month sleep shift. Here’s what’s going on – and how to handle it. At 4 months, your baby’s sleep cycles mature. They now sleep more like an adult, cycling in and out of deep and light sleep – which means more frequent waking. It’s a permanent change. The 4-month “regression” is really a developmental progression. The key is helping your baby adjust to this new way of sleeping. To avoid overtiredness (or under-tiredness), aim for wake windows of 2-2.5 hours. This helps your baby settle easier and sleep longer. Your baby may still need 1–2 feeds overnight. That’s normal. But sleep habits play a big role in night waking – not just hunger. This is a great age to gently introduce self-settling skills. It doesn’t have to mean leaving your baby to cry – it means supporting them to learn. The 4-month mark can be tough, but it’s also a turning point. With the right structure and support, sleep can (and will!) improve.
