However, once the heating turns off at night, room temperatures can drop unexpectedly, making it difficult for parents to judge whether more layers are needed. But a lot of the time, babies end up wearing too much, which makes them hot, restricted and restless through the night. Each extra layer traps heat and makes it harder for a baby to regulate their body temperature. By the early hours, that discomfort can lead to lighter sleep, constant stirring and even full wake-ups, often when parents are fast asleep themselves. If a baby can’t wriggle or change position easily, they’re far more likely to wake, and that’s when parents start seeing unexplained night waking or very early mornings.
