I get it—you’re craving that 2-hour break. But while some babies can handle long naps, those 2-hour stretches can mess with daytime and nighttime sleep for many. Babies can only sleep a certain number of hours in 24 hours—it’s biological. If we want dreamy 12-hour nights, we have to balance daytime sleep. Too much daytime sleep means less sleep left for the night. Lead to over-tiredness. Using too much of their sleep quota in one nap can throw off the rest of the day, causing skipped naps or late bedtimes = overtired baby = rough nights. Steal Sleep Drive Long naps drain the “sleep tank,” making it harder for your little one to settle for later naps or bedtime. Drop a Daytime Feed. If naps stretch beyond 3 hours between feeds, babies often miss a feeding, meaning they’ll make up for it at night (and yes, you should feed them if they’re hungry!).
