While it might sound like fairly sound wisdom, it’s not always the best approach with every newborn; at least to start with. That’s because, in those early weeks, some babies can be extra snoozy—so much so, that they might not wake and cue for feeds on their own as often as we might expect. We especially see this with little ones who have a bit of jaundice going on or in those who were born early. When our little ones are really tired like this, it can have an impact on their feeding, which of course can go on to also affect their weight gain and your milk supply if you are breastfeeding. It’s often just a matter of giving them some extra help to wake up for feeds.
