My Secret To Getting My Baby To Actually Nap

Babies are so many things—cute and noisy and sweet. But most of all, they’re sleepy. I have a 12-week-old daughter and she’s still exhausted from being born. They seriously nap so much at this age, but somehow, despite how tired they are, they still want to fight the actual process of going to sleep. babies to just shut their eyes. (Yes this column is called “One Thing,” but just one thing is not enough to get babies to sleep.) My first tip is to use a Sleepea, the award-winning swaddle from Happiest Baby. Sleepea is the easiest, most effective swaddle I’ve used so far (and I’ve tried quite a few). It’s seriously so easy—all you have to do is put your baby’s arms by their sides, fold the chest strap over them to Velcro it closed, and then pull up the leg flap for extra securing. And ta-da! Within five seconds, you have a cute little baby burrito who’s ready to go to sleep. Because here is the other part of my naptime routine—a sound machine that goes literally everywhere with us. We clip it to the edge of my daughter’s stroller when we’re going out and carry it around the house with us when we’re putting her to sleep. We have the Yoga sleep Hush Sound Machine, which I’m partial to because it’s so portable and easy to use. It also charges by USB so you don’t have to worry about batteries, because what new parent has time to sift through the battery drawer Between secure swaddling with the Sleepea and some shh-ing with the Yoga sleep sound machine, my baby now almost always falls asleep within minutes. Seriously, learn from my trial and error. You wouldn’t believe how many naps an infant has to take, and it’s in your best interest to make it as easy as possible. Swaddle them tight and get the white noise going. They’ll be asleep before you know it
